Last week’s – Map Overlay
But what’s the most important is what we learned from the traffic that was generated and how to improve our results.
First – As expected only a small percentage of the people who came to the site actually signed-up. The ones who did signup came from the smaller type bloggers who wrote about us or from twitter…which means, the signups came as a result of a referral from someone – the infamous word of mouth.
Second - The larger more well known blogs like ReadWriteWeb that did a story on us last week brought much of the international traffic and the buzz for the local people to get excited about us and increase the talk around town – and therefore the first point.
Third – The increased in impersonalized traffic resulted in the first smart@ss/fake community listing and potential spammer type profiles. The price you pay for being a free and open site.
What do you we do with that information? What type of traffic matters most? What type of buzz matters most? What have been our best referral sites? How do we keep them engaged?
Type of Traffic: The most important type of traffic is the kind that generates new sign-ups. What that means is we need more and more personalized write-ups and relevant information for bloggers to communicate to their audiences as it pertains to their audience in relation to WhyGoSolo. We have a plan for this…
Type of Buzz: What we’ve seen is that buzz from the top is the best kind to have and to keep looking for. People who are part of the word of mouth process love to know you're getting some nice buzz. The more buzz you have combined with a personalized/targeted message for the audiences you’re looking for the better.
Best Referral Sites: There’s a direct correlation on which site is the best referral site to my active interaction on that site. Pownce used to rule…because my time was spent there, StumbleUpon made an appearance when I increased my activity on it and now Twitter is running away with the price because I’ve been on Twitter a great deal more. You want to leverage social media – you best be knee deep in it.
How to we Keep People Engaged: Hoping the sharing of information, our new features and continuous involvement in the various communities will keep people engaged. The tide will eventually change and the growth and momentum of the WhyGoSolo community will lay within the community. When people start meeting other people using WhyGoSolo they’ll tell their stories.
As we implement our targeted growth plan…we’ll talk more about it.
See you on the site and out and about!
